Cherry Ripe Fruity Drink
Delicious cherries: this time in an energy- and health-giving smoothie.
This is the perfect breakfast for the physically active, a great brain booster if you’re off to school or college, and a good source of both instant and slower-release energy. Not bad, either, to set you up for a night on the town.
On a more serious note, use this recipe if you have a sore throat, cough or cold or after any form of physical injury.
200g or 7oz fresh cherries
Half a small pineapple
1 tbsp wheatgerm
1 tbsp ground almonds
150ml or 5fl oz plain live yoghurt
1. Wash and stone the cherries.
2. Peel, core, and chop the pineapple.
3. Peel the banana.
4. Put all the ingredients into aor food processor and whizz until smooth.
It’s the natural enzymes in the pineapple, particularly bromelain, that help break down and disperse bruises and relieve the pain of muscle and joint injuries. The protein and essential fatty acids from the almonds, vitamin E, and B vitamins from the wheatgerm, with calcium and potassium in the yoghurt and banana, makes this healthy nutrition for everyone and a power-boost for athletes of all levels.
