Fantastic Fennel Juice Recipe
The liquorice-like flavour of fennel, combined with the sweetness of apples and pears, imparts a delicious and unusual flavour to this drink.
Apples have traditionally been used by natural practitioners as a cleansing and detoxing food, as they have the ability to remove toxic substances from the system. Fennel is a mild diuretic and an extremely good digestive aid; it also has a balancing effect on female hormones.
2 large apples
1 medium fennel bulb
1. Wash all the ingredients.
2. Peel, top, and tail the carrot if it’s not organic.
3. Quarter the apples (but they don’t need to be cored).
4. Put everything through aand mix well. Strain if necessary.
Fennel contains the natural plant chemicals anethole and fenchone. Although it’s traditionally been used for the treatment of colic in children, its diuretic effect is what makes fennel a useful cleanser. Both apples and pears are rich in the soluble, pectin, which improves digestion and bowel function. Apples are a uniquely rich source of ellagic acid, another cleansing phytochemical.
It has to be mentioned here also, that the quantities of folic acid in this drink help to prevent hair loss during a course of chemotherapy (drunk daily throughout the treatment) – I speak from experience here.
