Lemon and Ginger Tea

I’m not a great lover of the quick fix – especially as this usually means covering up the symptoms and sweeping the problem under the carpet. But when you’re feeling a bit low, run down, and one degree under, here’s a quick fix that I really do recommend.

Nothing works quite as well as this extremely simple but deliciously stimulating drink. The cleansing citrus flavour of the lemon is an ideal combination with the tropical heat of ginger. Together they provide an almost instant mood boost: raising energy and gingering up the circulation.

Serves 2-3

2.5cm or 1-inch fresh ginger root

600ml or 20fl oz boiling water

1 lemon

 

1. Peel and grate the ginger root.

2. Cover with the boiling water.

3. Add the juice of half the lemon and leave to cool.

4. Put in the fridge to chill.

5. Strain and serve with slices taken from the other lemon half.

Lemons provide much more than just vitamin C, as they’re also a rich source of natural bioflavonoids which help strengthen and protect the walls of your blood vessels. Add ginger’s essential natural oils (gingerols and zingiberine), and you’ll benefit from centuries of ancient wisdom.
