Mangoes, Melon, Mint Mmmm…
What could be more refreshing than this combination of melon and, two of the most succulent of summer fruits? Separately, both enjoy folklore reputations for being soothing and cooling, but when they’re combined with the extra flavour of mint, they make a wonderful summer cooler. The is a favourite in Indian Ayurvedic medicine, where it’s widely prescribed as a cooling food for the relief of fevers.
1 cantaloupe melon
2 sprigs of mint
1. Peel the mangoes and remove the stones.
2. Peel and de-seed the melon.
3. Put the fruits through a(or into a ) and whizz until very smooth, adding a little water if the fruit isn’t breaking down.
4. Serve garnished with the mint.
Note: If you’re using a blender rather than a juicer, the fruit will need to be very ripe.
Nutritionally, the high betacarotene content of both fruits serves a dual purpose. Some is converted by the body into vitamin A while the rest is utilized as betacarotene for individual cell protection. All the carotenoids are exceptionally valuable as part of the body’s defence mechanisms against ageing, heart disease, and many forms of cancer.
