If you want to ginger up your vitality, then this is the drink for you. The ginger accentuates the delicious flavour of the pawpaw but also adds its own distinctive boost to this drink.

This is a wonderful recipe for a lazy Sunday morning when you read the papers, and just the thing to have before your weekly treat of a real English breakfast.

The digestive enzyme papaine in the pawpaws is a great aid to the digestion of high-protein foods.

 

Pawpaw and Ginger Refresher Serves 1-2

3 pawpaws

Half a tsp ground ginger

Water (for diluting)

 

1. Peel and de-seed the pawpaws.

2. Put into a blender or food processor with the ground ginger and whizz until smooth.

3. Dilute with water to your desired consistency.

4. Chill well before serving.

As well as being rich in vitamin C, pawpaws provide plenty of betacarotene, lots of flavonoids, and a surprisingly high amount of the essential mineral magnesium. The natural gingerols and zingiberenes in ginger boost the circulatory system and give an almost instant lift to your vitality.
