Perfect Hangover Cure
One for the Day After the Night Before
Self-inflicted illnesses such as hangovers don’t deserve much sympathy, but having seen so much suffering over the years, I include this recipe as a gesture of sympathy for those overcome by weakness the night before.
No doubt most of you were led into temptation by others, so here’s the perfect way to restore yourself to some semblance of functioning humanity.
2 camomile tea bags
125ml or 4fl oz apple juice
1 lemon tsp slippery elm bark
1. Make two mugs of tea with the tea bags and add ice-cubes to cool.
2. Add the apple juice.
3. Squeeze the juice from the lemon and add to the mugs.
4. Stir in the slippery elm bark.
5. Peel and finely slice the banana and float on the juice.
Slippery elm bark is a traditional herbalist’s remedy for upset stomachs of all kinds, and there’s not much worse than one upset by a surfeit of. The healing chemicals in apples are renowned for their soothing effect on the stomach, and camomile tea really helps with the headache, nausea, and general wretchedness of the hangover. Adding the easily digested banana provides a little solid nourishment that your delicate system will be able to handle with ease.
